Gussy Sews Inspiration Workshop: My Style

Gussy Sews Inspiration Workshop! has switched from once a week to once a month. And I hadn’t been posting regularly, so I missed last month’s prompt.

But when I received the prompt for this month My Style, I knew it was time to jump back in.

You may have seen the pictures that I post here of my minimalist wardrobe, and hopefully you have noticed a trend. My go-to outfit is a dress or skirt with a cardigan and heels. It’s my fave!

I wear dresses and skirts 5 -6 days a week. I am to the point where I really feel uncomfortable in pants. They look so weird on me!

In general, I’m pretty girly but I also like to think that I am also sophisticated.

Here are some of the other things (besides dresses and heels) that I consider my signature pieces:

Big glasses/sunglasses

Bright colors

Scarves

Fingernail/toenail polish

Stuff I make or made by someone I know

An eclectic mix of pieces (second hand, vintage, brand new, hand made, etc.)

(Remember when I posted about my head scarf the other week? Well here’s the full outfit.)

It’s taken me about three decades to get to this place, and you know what? I love it!

Minimalist life?

One of my recurring problems that is rearing its ugly head this week is my damn tendency to over-schedule my life.

If you know me IRL, you absolutely know what I am talking about.

This week is even more stressful because I’m going back to visit my family for a long weekend. And I have so much to do before I leave!

There are the typical travel/packing problems. I also have activities scheduled for each day before I fly out. Plus I need to finish my application for my Dream Job.

This is on top of all the other January stressors like losing the holiday weight and getting the counting house back in order.

And of course, getting back on track with my blogging.

So apologies if I seem erratic and distracted. I need to do all the things!

Any chance I could get a few extra hours a day??

What are you busy doing this month? How do you relax??

2012 calendar!

OK, so it’s that time of year when all the new awesome calendars come out. I need to get a new one for work. (This is the one I have for at home, and it is AWESOME. The height of functionality.)

Both of these calendars are NSFW. But they make me happy, so I decided to share them with you all. You’re welcome.

First up for consideration is the calendar of literary pin-up girls. It is beautiful AND clever! It was printed via the genius of Patrick Rothfuss, who you may know as a brilliant writer from Steven’s Point, Wisconsin.

Second up for consideration is the calendar from The Bloggess. This calendar is so funny that I just woke up the Man, who was sleeping all the way across the house, from laughing so loudly. I mean, come on! Wil Wheaton collating paper! Beyonce, knocking on the door! Hilarity ensues.

Bonne anne!

Happy New Year everyone!

I am not one to make resolutions, but I find that this time of year lends itself to reflection and oftentimes course corrections.

One thing that has started to stress me out is the amount of Stuff in my house. There is too much Stuff!

And then, coincidentally, I caught a live webinar (the video is still available!) by Leo Babauta from Zen Habits about de-cluttering. What an inspiration! I can do this! I clean ALL the things!

So today, the first Saturday of 2012, I am awake early and I have already cleaned out one closet. (Um, the smallest one in the house.) I washed a load of laundry. I put away the dishes from the dishwasher. I wrote a blog post (!). And now I’m going for a run.

And after that? Maybe get rid of more Stuff!

You know, this year might be pretty good after all.
