I bet you thought this post was about Easter. But it’s not!

My über talented friend Anthea has published her second set of short stories today. Refuge: Tales from a Zombie Apocalypse is a set of seven fictional short stories about zombies, of course, but also survival, community, and what it means to be human. I read some drafts, and let me tell you: this is some great stuff.
And you can get it right here. Normally it’s $2.99, but until April 23, you can get it free with her coupon code. If you do, please go back and review it for her. Good karma and all that.
Guess where I’m going this weekend. Providence, Rhode Island! I’m pretty excited for a nice relaxing overnight trip to an interesting city I’ve never visited. The weather might not cooperate, but I think the Man and I will figure out some ways to have fun. I want to take lots of pictures to share with you on Monday!
AND guess what I had for lunch today! An amazing chocolate cupcake, with peanut butter filling, and chocolate frosting. Whoa. It was delicious. And I got it from The Cupcake Brake. AND I was able to donate money to Charity:Water at their food truck. My life is complete.
I will be back on Monday to share some awesome pictures with you. Have a great weekend! Cheers!
OK, so it’s that time of year when all the new awesome calendars come out. I need to get a new one for work. (This is the one I have for at home, and it is AWESOME. The height of functionality.)
Both of these calendars are NSFW. But they make me happy, so I decided to share them with you all. You’re welcome.
First up for consideration is the calendar of literary pin-up girls. It is beautiful AND clever! It was printed via the genius of Patrick Rothfuss, who you may know as a brilliant writer from Steven’s Point, Wisconsin.
Second up for consideration is the calendar from The Bloggess. This calendar is so funny that I just woke up the Man, who was sleeping all the way across the house, from laughing so loudly. I mean, come on! Wil Wheaton collating paper! Beyonce, knocking on the door! Hilarity ensues.
I know I haven’t written in six weeks. I have been busy! Life is unexpected sometimes, in good ways and in complicating ways.
Now, I am trying to finish all of my mission critical activities before the holidays – decorating, baking, and shopping. I have tried to eliminate those things that I don’t want to do, but what’s left is still a lot. And the sun rises later and sets sooner, and all I want to do is sleep.
But I have been thinking about where my life is at and what I would change and what I would keep the same. I want to continue to do the things that make me happy. Creating. Entertaining. Keeping house. Loving my family and friends.
I am not one for resolutions, but I do like to stay on track with my life. I recently read something that I thought was interesting and helped me focus my thoughts. If you are so inclined, check out this manifesto by Chris over at The Art of Non-Conformity: The Tower. It makes me want to figure out what kind of legacy project I want to create, and how I can work on that project every day.
Anyway, I just wanted to pop in and say hi to everyone. Let me know – what kinds of things are you working on to create a legacy?
Hello everyone. Happy August to you! This summer is flying by, but I am still enjoying the wonderful weather and hoping to get some more pool time in before the weather starts cooling down.
The links I am sharing with you today are all written by women who are living their dreams. It’s funny how the Internet works; I ran across these all these morning. Pretty much perfect for my blog, right? Thanks, Internet.
1) Carrie and her husband live a traveling lifestyle.
2) Tammy just took a digital sabbatical for the month of July. Also she and her husband are building a tiny house, which is nearly finished.
3) Elizabeth is helping women through her beauty blog.
Check out these three amazing women!
Have you guys done anything lately to reach your dreams? Share!
It’s too darn hot! Here are three quick recipes to keep you cool.
1) I have made this raspberry gelato recipe a lot of times. Usually I leave out the cream, so it’s more of a sorbet. Perfect for hot weather.
2) I have never made horchata before, but these horchata pops seem easy and delicious.
3) I love rhubarb. This gingered rhubarb compote looks amazing. I will be entertaining a few times in the next month, and I might try this if I can find any fresh rhubarb. Yum!
Do you have any go-to summer recipes? I would love to hear!
Quilts! I have been thinking about these three designs for a couple of months and can’t decide which one to start first.
1) Ruffles!
2) Piano Keys
3) Storm at Sea
But I’m working on a few other projects right now, including getting some presents made for the winter holidays, so I won’t be starting a new quilt anytime soon. I need to finish a couple that I have already started!
What would you make if you had all the time and resources in the world? How come we can’t have 28 hours in a day? 24 is simply too few.
1) Every once in a while, I consider getting a tattoo. This one - the spools of thread on her shoulder – is a contender. P.S. Gorgeous blog too.
2) I <3 a good infographic. This interactive map by National Geographic is filled with them. It contains several graphs showing the distribution of wealth within the world and how that affects health, education, life expectancy, number of cell phones per 100 people, etc. Fascinating!
3) Conan O’Brien gave the commencement speech at Dartmouth this year. I have watched this whole thing through over five times. It is a great, inspiring speech – funny and thoughtful. Check it out.
Happy Monday, kids!
1) I love easy beauty tricks. Here’s an amazing homemade body scrub I can’t wait to try.
2) Wil Wheaton: If you build it, they will come. (And by “they”, I mean “me”. I would totally come to your 80s arcade. Do it!)
3) I love this question from Project 333: “How has this project impacted your personal style?” My response is that since I can only have a few things in my wardrobe, I only wear clothes that I love. I am very willing to get rid of clothes that I don’t like. Before I would have hung onto them for “someday”. Now, if I’m not wearing it, it’s going to Goodwill. That means that I wear a lot of dresses, skirts, and fun colors. My personal style is stronger and more obvious because of Project 333.
